Crush of the Week: Friday Night Lights Edition

I just finished reading Friday Night Lights by H.G. Bissinger and have started watching the TV show inspired by the book. I have watched 11 episodes so far and have cried in 9 of them. FOR REALSY GOOD SHOW. Also, if you haven't read the book, you should. Definitely one of the best books I've read in a long time. If you have ever wondered how messed up football towns are, this is the book for you. If you have ever wondered how beautiful men look in football uniforms, then this is the blog for you.

First off, the movie, cause it's what I saw first.
Note: The movie is set in 1988, so please take their hair with a grain of salt.

1. Mike Winchell (Lucas Black)

Sorry about the tiny tiny picture, but that's the best one I could find from the movie. Here's another one below that's not from the movie.

A handsome Southern boy with a heart of gold. What else could a girl want?

Um...a REALLY REALLY TALL handsome southern boy that drinks like a fish and gets in fights. Hence, number 2.

2. Don Billingsley (Garrett Hedlund)

Whatever, girls love a bad boy. And he has this super deep voice, which is AWE-some.

And now the show, which, thankfully, is set in modern-day Texas and so has normal clothes and hair. For the most part.

3. Matt Saracen (Zach Gilford)

He's the most adorable boy in the world. He's a quarterback, but he's super shy and stammers and takes care of his sick grandma and is basically the sweetest thing in the entire world.

The look on his face basically is exactly what his character is like. So cute!

4. Tim Riggins (Taylor Kitsch)

He's the badass of this show. He's usually drunk and greasy looking, but it's kind of awesome.

5. Coach Taylor (Kyle Chandler)

I saved the best for last, here. He's funny and a good coach and a good dad and a sweet husband (and handsome!! So handsome). The best part of this show is how wonderful he is with his daughter. Precious!

So, yeah. Read the book. Watch the movie. Watch the TV show.

You'll thank me later.

Also, Bron, you would totally LOVE Tim Riggins. LOVE. I wish you were here and we could watch this show together. Way to get married and ruin everything.

Glad you liked the book. Quite an indictment of the West Texas culture. I can't bring myself to watch the TV show. But I hope Bissinger makes a million or two from it.

Grae: I can bring you the first season to try out next time I come visit. If you don't like it, you've only wasted 45 minutes of your life.

I KNOW, RIGHT? Tim Riggins is unreal hot and totally my favourite. I was going to say something truly inappropriate, but my dad reads this blog so just imagine what I might say in a situation like this.

For reals.

I preferred the story-line and characters they had on in previous seasons, but I still enjoyed the first two episodes. The producers take too many liberties with the coach going to a college program, then he comes back, then after winning a state title they get rid of him and he has to go to a rival school doesnt even have a football team?

Rakeback: I'm liking this season so far. It was time for some new characters but I'm glad they kept some of my favourites. I'm also hoping there's more football in this season. I found the last couple were more about the characters, which was nice, but I missed the football.

Lyn. I wish we were in the same city. Or just the same office again. I would put the biggest Riggins pictures up on our bulletin board. And Saracen. And Coach Taylor. I'm so addicted right now that I said "y'all" to a full-house audience at a concert we were hosting. A public y'all.

And rakeback -- holy spoiler! Uhh, we haven't all gotten that far. No more spoilers, 'kay?

Regan!! I'm so glad you love this show. I have a hard time not scolding people in my Tami Taylor accent, and I have bitten of a "y'all" or two.

I'm scared no one in my family will watch it now because I've talked it up so much. But I LOVE Riggins. And Saracen. And Coach Taylor. Sigh.
