Another Bit of Outrage About glee and Disability

Here, you can hear the glee version of Imagine, available for purchase on iTunes. You may notice something missing. ... That would be the voice of John Autry, the soloist from the Deaf choir.

There is a chance, I suppose, that there were legal reasons for not having the voice of Mr. Autry on the single, but that seems unlikely. It's more likely another case of glee being totally ignorant.

And yet, the music and the brilliance of Jane Lynch and the hope that things will change keep me coming back to the show. STOP DISAPPOINTING ME, GLEE.

in lieu of a full post on glee and Deafness

Here's a link to the access_fandom page of other bloggers who discuss it.

I especially recommend this post and this one.

What? WHAT? WHAT?!?!?!

This is exactly how I expect to respond to any marriage proposal. (Well, after the bit that she thinks he's asking her to perform the ceremony.)

Have you ever heard a peep out of a bottle of perfume?

For Canadians that grew up in the 80s, that will mean something to you. For the rest of you, watch this commercial and see a part of my childhood.

to add to the list

Chocolate syrup from Superstore. Comes in a bottle the shape of an elephant and is the closest thing to Brown Cow (How now Brown Cow? It's Mooo-licious!) in ages.

so much to blog about

I have so much to blog about, but no time to do it in. Well, no time right NOW to do it in, since it's already 10:13 and I haven't started working. Yeesh. So I'm making a list here of what I need to blog about so I don't forget. And maybe I'll get enough of it said in the list that I won't actually need to blog about it.

1. Old dell died, got a new lap top. Txt I sent out to friends and family about it: "Eighteen hundred dollars later and I'm the stunned owner of a macbook pro." No one got it, because I don't know how to use my cellphone properly.

2. last night's glee. Further disappointment on how it dealt with/used disability, this time deafness. Nice of the glee kids to TOTALLY INTERRUPT AND DEVALUE the Deaf school kids' performance of "Imagine."* That wasn't rude at all. It wasn't like they jumped in during "Crazy/Hair." And it was totally another pat-on-the-back for the able-bodied for reaching out to those with disabilities again.

3. I got so worked up just then about glee that I'm not sure I can remember the rest of my list.
Ah, right. Bathroom stalls.

4. London.

I think that's about it. I'll catch you guys later.

*To further clarify--while the glee kids were clearly moved by the Deaf school performance and thus did value it, they started singing with the choir because they felt that melody and harmony were missing from it--they were privileging those aspects of voice over the dramatic voicing by the Deaf students.

British Brilliance

This kid, charlieissocoollike, is brilliant. And I need to share that brilliance with you, and I will do so, by showing you this video.

First, UKELELE. For REALS. Secondly, the scat near the end of the song is musical and comic genius. Thirdly, dude's outro is by Stephen Fry. He clearly is so cool.

Not just that, but he and a bunch of other teen youtubers got together to make a cheesy music video to raise money for a children's charity in Britain. I am so glad that there are role models like these out there.
